Finding Alignment

This post is inspired by a recent podcast from Naval Ravikant. I've been listening to some of his advice for many years. While he isn't the reason why I am where I am today, he did play a big part in shaping my thinking.

Life is short. Very important decisions need to be made. And it is essential that you live the "right" life, while you are still on this earth.

Your decisions have profound influences all on your entire life. Your systems, both conscious and unconscious, shape your entire existence. And most of us are like zombies, walk through life with little purpose or direction. Your attention is being pulled in a million different directions. A million things are lacking. And we are unhappy, even though we have every reason we need to just be happy.

The missing answer for all of those, haha, like something magical, is alignment. Alignment in life, is how you can live a more peaceful life. You can stay more principled. You can make sure you do the right things. And you can concentrate and improve your life greatly, and profoundly. And that's from alignment.

Alignment is one of the big reasons why meditation is so powerful. It's one of those reasons why journaling can be so powerful. By spending the time to coalesce your thoughts, by observing, and watching, and picking through the things you know, you align and explore your thoughts, watch them grow, and put them to rest.

Anxiety comes from the combination of many unsolved problems that weigh down the mind. Especially conflicting problems. If you want to eat something, but you want to work, you have to choose one. And you need to live with that decision. That's a simple problem. A more complicated problem may be choosing a career as a teacher, or a career as a biologist. Those problems stress you out, and can be overwhelming to answer. You have to live with the decision. And naturally the easiest thing to do, is to push it back, and decide later. But it is important to decide as soon as you can. But it is even more important to really plan it out, and think truly what you want. That decision can change your life incredibly for many years, 4 years, maybe multiple decades. To reduce your anxiety, you need alignment. You need to choose the right decision, and live by them.

A natural constant part of life, is seeking alignment. All big decisions should align with who you are personally. If you don't you may end up living someone else's life. Somewhere you weren't meant to be. It could be very stressful. Very painful. And ultimately not worth it at all.

Seek alignment, make better decisions, and really make sure you are doing what you should be. Once you decide, live with the consequences, good or bad, and keep going.

So if anything, this is a letter to seek alignment. Don't wait too long. Many people just stumble around in life, without seriously reflecting. And as we all heard from Socrates... "The unexamined life is not worth living".
